News & Award
In
2002 Sydney Goat Show, Mericol exhibited 10 animals for 8
ribbons, including Senior Champion Doe, 4 seconds, 3 thirds
and 1 fourth place. In
2001 Mericol was awarded Reserve Junior Champion Buck, “Toby”.
The
Mericol success extends into the sale ring, with Australia
record prices achieved (as conducted by Elder VPC).
-
Firstly, Mericol on farm auctions of 64 animals sold to
a total price of $158,000 AUD, on average price of just
under $2,500 per head.
-
The highest priced animal was at $12,500 AUD for a Topman
Buck, sold to a New Zealand buyer.
-
Several bucks and does exceeded $5,000 AUD.
-
One buyer bought $160,000 AUD worth and returned the following
year to purchase a further $50,000 AUD of premium new genetics.
-
Elders stated that this was the best Boer Goat auction conducted
in Australia to date.
-
Our does have regularly sold from $5,000 to $10,000 each
for best-of-breed animals.
-
60% of Mericol sales are exported to China each year.
-
For the past six years, Boer Goats have been our only source
of income.
The
returns per hectare of land are truly outstanding. Four breeding
does per hectare can easily rare 6-8 kids with some supplementary
feed. The sums are easy to work out. The average price between
say $800 and $5,000 per head would be about $1,500 on the
Mericol stud. Therefore, say 6 kids sold at $1,500 each would
result in a return of $8,000 per hectare; 8 kids at $1,500
would yield $12,000 per hectare.
This
equation is based on Mericol bloodlines and may not relate
to all breeders.
